Gynecomastia is commonly caused by either a drop in the level of testosterone (male hormone) or a rise in the estrogen (female hormone) level. This change in the hormonal balance causes the breast tissue to grow. For most men – especially during adolescence – the breasts will usually go back to normal if they are given enough time, usually around two years.
